Nestled in the woods near Lake Wappapello, this rustic yet refined cabin is a testament to thoughtful, intentional design—blending the warmth of natural materials with modern comfort and vintage charm. When designing this space, I wanted to create a retreat that felt both cozy and functional, where every detail enhances the experience of slowing down and reconnecting with nature.
The interiors draw inspiration from classic American cabins, incorporating exposed beams, reclaimed wood, and earthy tones that echo the beauty of the surrounding forest. The living area features a vaulted ceiling that makes the space feel airy and inviting, while the electric fireplace serves as the heart of the home, providing both warmth and a nostalgic charm. To balance the rustic elements, I selected comfortable, unfussy furnishings—a plush velvet sofa, layered textiles, and vintage pieces that add character without feeling overdone.
The kitchen is compact but highly functional, designed with open shelving and a mix of modern and vintage touches. The dining area is intimate yet welcoming, perfect for slow mornings with coffee or lingering over a home-cooked meal.
The bedrooms were designed to feel like a true retreat, with soft lighting, cozy bedding, and a layered mix of textures to create a sense of warmth and relaxation.
Outside, the screen porch and fire pit extend the living space into nature. The goal was to create a seamless connection between indoors and out—whether you’re cozied up with a good book or having a lively board game competition with your family.
This cabin isn’t just a place to stay—it’s a place to slow down, breathe deeply, and enjoy the beauty of simple, intentional design.
